New fireplaces

New gas fireplace installation in Blue Springs, MO

A fireplace on a wall that never had one. Blue Springs Fireplaces frames and vents direct vent gas fireplaces into basements, additions and great rooms across eastern Jackson County, $6,000 to $12,000 installed, no chimney required.

How a direct vent fireplace goes in without a chimney

A direct vent gas fireplace is a sealed steel firebox with a glass front and a coaxial vent: a pipe inside a pipe. The inner pipe carries exhaust out, the outer pipe draws combustion air in, and both terminate at one cap on the outside wall or on the roof. Room air never touches the fire, so the unit can sit in a tight basement or a bedroom without the indoor air concerns of vent free logs.

The unit is framed into a wood chase like a cabinet, to the clearances in its listing, and finished on the face with whatever you like. On an exterior wall the vent goes straight out behind it, which is the cheapest route. On an interior wall it runs up through the roof, which adds pipe, flashing and about a day.

Where new fireplaces go in Blue Springs homes

Basement finishes. The split levels and ranches around Blue Springs and Grain Valley have walkout or daylight basements that get finished into family rooms, and a fireplace on the exterior wall is the anchor of the room. We coordinate the rough opening with the framer and bring the gas line over from the furnace.

Great rooms and additions. Newer homes near Blue Springs Lake and the estate lots in Lone Jack often add a fireplace to a two story room. These call for a larger unit, 35,000 to 40,000 BTU, with a blower.

Builder unit replacements. Grain Valley, Greenwood and the 1990s parts of Lee’s Summit have thousands of builder grade gas fireplaces now past twenty years old with discontinued valves and vent kits. A new direct vent unit drops into the same framing and is usually cheaper than chasing parts.

Failed prefab wood boxes. When a 1980s metal wood fireplace has rusted through, it cannot take an insert. The box comes out and a new direct vent gas unit goes into the chase, keeping the mantel and face where possible.

New fireplace questions

How much does a new gas fireplace cost installed in Blue Springs?

$6,000 to $12,000 for a direct vent gas fireplace framed, vented and finished in an existing room, including the unit, vent, framing and a plain finished face. A gas run adds $450 to $1,500 and stone or a custom mantel is quoted separately.

Do I need a chimney for a new gas fireplace?

No. A direct vent unit vents horizontally through the exterior wall behind it or vertically through the roof with its own pipe. No masonry chimney is built.

Can you put a fireplace in my finished basement?

Yes, this is the most common new fireplace job in Blue Springs and Grain Valley. The unit goes on an exterior wall in the walkout or at grade, vents outside, and we coordinate the framing and the gas run with your basement finish.

My builder gas fireplace from 2003 is dead. Can you replace it?

Yes. Most 2000s units sit in a standard framed opening and a new direct vent fireplace drops in, sometimes with a new vent run when the old pipe is discontinued. Price is the same $6,000 to $12,000 row.

Are electric fireplaces an option?

We install gas and wood. Electric units are a plug in appliance with no venting, and any carpenter can frame one in; they do not heat like a gas unit and we do not sell them.
